The journey started in the late spring of 2013 when by chance or maybe by faith, I was introduced to Nocino at a small restaurant on the outskirts of Modena. The black elixir intrigued me so much that a year later I set forth in producing the first batch. Practice makes perfect, but with attention to detail combined with passion and access to quality ingredients, giant steps were made. Year after year, Forager has been named the best Nocino from the United States by the Ordine del Nocino Modenese, an Italian organization that preserves the tradition of Nocino and hosts a yearly international competition.
Nocino is an ancient walnut liqueur that dates back to the Roman times. Strictly following the traditional recipe, this nocino is bottled at cask strength only after 2 years of aging in oak casks. The deep black color is further enriched with hints of clover, cinnamon and nutmeg which further reinforce the natural walnut taste of nocino.
